02 — Context

Your old furniture is one moment away from ruining yours.

The Campaign

Royal Oak ran an exchange offer — bring in your old furniture, upgrade to new. The brief was to make people feel the problem before presenting the solution. Not through a hard sell, but through something they'd laugh at and instantly recognise.

The Storyline

Three comedy films, one family — a young couple and a father living together. In each film, a family member uses a piece of old furniture at a key moment. It gives way, breaks, and completely ruins the scene in the most awkward, funny way possible. The films end with a simple cue: it's time to exchange your old furniture for Royal Oak.

The Insight

Old furniture doesn't just look bad — it lets you down at the worst possible time. The comedy came from that truth. Every broken chair, every bed that develops a rhythm at the exact moment silence was the plan — it's a moment any viewer has either lived or quietly dreaded. The exchange offer becomes the obvious, inevitable answer.

03 — The Work

Cinematography

Frame the break.
Earn the laugh.

Comedy on camera lives or dies by the frame. The furniture-break moments needed to be set up visually — wide enough to see the whole situation, close enough to read the reaction. Every shot was composed with the punchline in mind.

Lighting kept the world warm and domestic. Natural-feeling sources — windows, practicals — grounded each scene in a real home rather than a commercial set. The more believable the world, the harder the laugh when something goes wrong in it.

Warm, natural-feeling interior lighting

Framing built around the comedic break moment

Wide establishing shots to contextualise the chaos

Reaction coverage to let performances land

Old furniture prominent in frame — the problem is visible

Creative Direction

The break is
the brief.

The creative challenge was making the old furniture the antagonist — without turning the films into a lecture. Each story needed to feel like a genuine slice of family life that happened to end with something collapsing at the worst moment.

Working with director Sriram Iyer and agency Verrocchios Workways, the direction kept the three films consistent as a series — same family, escalating chaos, same warm tone — while building naturally to the exchange offer cue at the end of each film. The brand message lands because the audience is already laughing.

Exchange offer narrative structure across all three films

Old furniture as the comic antagonist in every story

Recurring family unit — couple + father — for series continuity

Comedy grounded in real domestic situations, not exaggerated gags

End-card cue integrated naturally into each film's resolution
